The morning dawned bright on 2nd April 2006, heralding a cheerful and fun-filled Sunday in celebration of Tribe Toyota's 1st anniversary. Even though registration and collection of shoes would start at 9am, Tribe Toyota members started to trickle in early at U-Bowl Centre in 1-Utama, a testimony to the fact that nothing will stop them from having a great time even if it means getting up early!

Breakfast commenced with a spread of local tidbits accompanied by refreshments, to give them all the strength they can muster for those 10-pound bowling balls. The participants settled in quickly, digging into the food, chatting, checking out the team allocations and getting geared with the proper shoes.

Although many were already acquainted with one another from previous events and on-going Teh Tarik outings, there were new faces as well. "It's my first time," said Goh H.F., who came with her husband, all looking chirpy and eager to get started. They didn't have to wait too long, however, as the event briefing began at 10am.

The rules were simple - each team comprised 4 members each, and the team with the best score accumulated from 3 games would win. Most of the Tribe Toyota members were raring to get started, with some already stretching out the creaks in less-used joints. They were given a 10-minute warm-up session that began with much gung-ho. The atmosphere was punctuated with cheers for the good (or lucky) tries, and groans from the not-so-lucky.

The tournament proper kicked off on time at 10.10am, a more intense environment replacing the relaxed one earlier. It was easy to tell which were the more experienced players, with their gloves, low stances and smooth, powerful bowls. Applause, cheers of encouragement and even impromptu bowling lessons could be seen and heard throughout the lanes.

The various Tribe Toyota members were more than happy to chat about the event while waiting for their turn to bowl. This Tribe Toyota event was the first for Khairuddin Bin Yusuf and Haja Mohedden Bin S.Mohd Hanifa from Lane 34, both agreeing it was fun. Teo Giap Soon, on the other hand, was observing the competition - "Lane 24 and 34 are very good," he whispered conspiratorially.

Most participants completed their 3 rounds of non-stop bowling by 12pm, and the announcement came for everyone to adjourn to "Good Evening Bangkok" for lunch. It was a cosy Thai restaurant on the ground floor, with a spread of sumptuous Thai food waiting at the buffet tables. Everyone settled down in short order, some discussing their game, some speculating the winners, others catching up - all having a good time.

The prize-giving ceremony commenced, and various prizes were given away to the individual best scorers and team winners amidst much applause and camaraderie. The rest of the participants were rewarded as well for a morning of hard bowling - with a feast of steaming hot Thai cuisine.

As tired as everyone must have been, the cacophony of chatter and cutlery filled up the remainder of the lunch. The event concluded as participants slowly left, taking with them fond memories of yet another fun and entertaining Tribe Toyota outing.
