HEART-PUMPING, FUN-LOVING ACTION |

On 3 December 2011, a total of 26 tribes showed up bright and early on a Saturday at the UMW Toyota Motor headquarters in Shah Alam. There were tribes made up of family members, friends, workmates; there were tribes from Johor, Melaka, Perak, Penang, Terengganu … in a nutshell, there were people of all shapes and sizes present. But they were all here as part of Amazing Trails of the Thrillseekers! These 26 tribes had worked hard to canvass for enough Cheers via their Facebook networks to qualify for this stage. Everyone was pumped to go; there was certainly a frisson of competition in the air!

Breakfast was served, followed by a quick briefing. Tribes were reminded to check in at each Challenge location by uploading their photos via their RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags. They were also urged to call on their friends and family to Cheer on each photo upload as it was pivotal to determining the winners. At 8.30am, it was time to go as tribes were flagged off at staggered intervals to meet the first of their three Challenges.

The Wall challenge took place at Putrajaya Challenge Park. Tribes were dwarfed by the massive indoor rock-climbing walls, some of which measured up to 20 meters in height! Their task of the day was to scale it. Different points were given at determined height levels – the higher you climbed, the more points you collect. Though it was an intimidating challenge for many, it didn’t stop 60-year-old Madam Chan Suet Mooi from tribe BLUEHOUSE.MY from having a go at it. She surprised herself when she managed to climb the wall!

The Bazaar challenge had the tribes driving over to Souq Putrajaya. With the theme of “Hybrid”, tribes were given a RM100 budget and a 15-minute time frame to shop for items that best reflected the theme. Some tribes went all out in green and blue; others cross-dressed to reflect a “hybrid of woman and man”, while some mixed ethnic styles to reflect a “hybrid of culture”. They were creative, to say the least! The tribes also got to keep all the fruits of their shopping labour.

Finally, we found ourselves at the Cyberjaya Community Club for the Race challenge. Tribes had 15 minutes on the go-kart circuit and though many had a slow start, the pace picked up as their confidence grew. Several tribes collided with the barrier (nothing major!) but the most dramatic action of the day was courtesy of tribe The Incredible Prius – a tyre fell away from their go-kart as they were racing!

After completing the three Challenges, all tribes made their way back to the headquarters for a much-deserved buffet lunch. While they were resting, local songbird Liyana Fizi performed, serenading all in the hall with her sweet voice and gentle melodies. A calm respite before anticipation mounted again for the announcement of the winners. Who were the winners? Find out here

All in all, it was unanimously agreed that Amazing Trails of the Thrillseekers was a totally fun day out. We wonder what next year might bring … hang in there, we’ll find out together soon enough!
